The Perfect Trouser

I have a love hate relationship with trousers. I always think I look weird in them. Nothing ever fits right. But I never give up. I am always looking for that perfect pair. I have collected many over the years and I have yet to find the holy grail.

We can thank my obsession for the perfect trouser to Helmut Newton, Yves Saint Laurent and this picture:
Photo taken in 1975 by Helmut Newton of "Le Smoking" tuxedo by Yves Saint Laurent, is one of Newton's most recognized and famous picture.

I first saw this picture over 15 years ago. It inspires me today as much as it inspired me then. But as much as I love this picture, it is also my curse because my standards on how clothing should fit is way too high. Pants or clothing for that matter are made no where near to the perfection that they were made over 40 years ago.

I will continue that search. I know those trousers are out there. But until then, I will continue to have fun trying.

H&M: The Garden Collection

Is not very often that I find clothes at H&M that I like enough to buy. I can count with one hand the articles of clothing that I have hanging in my closet that are from that store. I do not have anything against the clothing that they sell, is just every time I look at one of the pieces I always imagine that after the first wash they will fall apart. But accidentally while I was searching for something online I ran into the images below:
Tunic $14.95
Dress $19.95
Top $24.95 and Shorts $24.95

These pieces are from H&M's lookbook for their spring collection called "The Garden Collection". I am really liking this collection and look forward to see it in person. The Collection will hit stores in March.

I want...

I was reading The Coveted this morning and she had posted about the label Monki. My eyes instantly zeroed in on these boots:

So of course I had to visit the Monki site to see what else catches my fancy:

Love it all! But there is a problem, the clothing is only sold in Stockholm. :-( I need to take a trip out there so that I can do some shopping.

More Collaborations

The Anna Sui for Target collection has come and gone. Actually, As of yesterday my local Target still had some of her pieces. But I wont even get into that, with the fact that there are still clothing left on the racks says enough about that collection.

The next Target collaboration is already in stores and that is Carlos Falchi for Target. For those that do not know who he is, he is a purse/bag designer. You can find some of his drool inducing bags at Saks. But if you are like me and do not have $2,000+ to drop on a bag, this collection with Target is your chance to own one of his bags.

I stopped by my local Target last night to see if I can check out the bags. I am especially eyeing this satchel:
But they did not have them out yet. I went on the website today and they state that it is now in stock. So I will see about stopping by tonight before heading home.

The next collaboration I am looking forward to is Jimmy Choo for H&M I am not going to even try and front, I am looking forward to this collection. I own a few Choo's and I LOVE them to pieces.

Of course we cannot forget the Rodarte for Target collection that will hit stores on December 20th as I mentioned here. I have seen some of the pictures of the collection and I am not sure how I feel about it yet. But I will keep an open mind till I see it for myself next month.

Here is one of the dresses:

What are your thoughts on all these collaborations? Any in particular you are looking forward to?

They Fit!

This morning has been very exciting for me. While I was standing in my closet thinking about what I was going to wear, I look down at my closet floor and I see my red patent leather shoes that I have not worn in a year because they did not fit.

I did not want to torture myself but I was curious to see if I could get my foot inside. So I tried, my foot slid in. THEY FIT!

So of course as soon as I calmed myself down enough to think straight I decided that I had to wear them today. Now to pick what to wear. That is always a problem because you see, 95% of my clothes do not fit. Most of my clothes are size 14 - 8. I am currently a size 16. But I did not want to wear any of my size 16 clothes with my beautiful shoes.

What is a girl to do?

My eyes locked on to a royal blue pencil skirt that is a size 14. It has been about 10 months or more since I wore it. Should I? I mean, my shoes fit, maybe the skirt will. The size 16 pants I wore yesterday I used to be able to wear without a belt but yesterday I had to wear a belt because they were really loose.

I decided to try it on. It won't be so bad if it does not fit, I am too happy that my shoes fit to get upset over that.

I took the skirt and it slid easily up my legs. Now the true test is if the zipper goes up. So I headed on over to Mr. P and asked him to zip me up.

It also fit. Of course, he had zipped it up and I did not even realize he did it because he did not have to struggle. It was an easy zip up.

Today I am looking like my old self and people are noticing. One of my co-workers even commented on how great I am looking.

It is making me feel more motivated and excited about my weight loss journey. I wanted to take a picture this morning but I ran out of time. :-(

I Spy with My Shoe Eye: Alien Footwear

Have you been keeping track of the fashion shows? You know I have, I just decided not to blog about them this time around. BUT, exceptions can always be made. Especially when you see something so awesome that even though everyone and their grandmother is talking about it you also have to put your two cents in.

Behold the shoes of Alexander McQueen's Spring 2010 RTW:

You all know how much I love me some McQueen. The guy is simply a genius. While everyone is playing it safe or redoing something that has already been done. McQueen is practically reenacting the movie Alien into his design.

My only question is how long did the models practice walking in those shoes?

Look at what I found....

I did my Friday G Street Fabric run to check out what new fabrics came in for the discount bin. When my eyes fell on this:

Does it look familiar?

The fabric has the same pattern as the fabric on the dress worn by Miranda in the Sex and the City Movie.

When the movie came out I loved the dress and I found it, but it was too rich for my blood so I skipped buying it.

Well, Now I can make my version of the dress. I have decided on this dress pattern:

I am going to make dress "A", the pint and black dress.

I really loved the Miranda dress but I was never excited about the longer sleeves. I always thought about how much better the dress would look with cap sleeves like the dress pattern above. What do you think?

On other news, I have been quiet because I have been keeping myself busy with different projects. For example this weekend I am taking a jewelry class and it is a blast! I will tell you guys more about it tomorrow evening and show you guys photos of what I made.

What is going on with you guys?

The Skirt

Two weeks ago I spoke about a skirt that I was going to make. I made it but never got around to take a picture due to getting sick but I finally wore it on Friday. Here it is:

Argh! I did not realized that my skirt had ridden up in the back. At least I did not moon anyone! :-)

Shoes: Steve Madden
Skirt: Made by Me
Earring and Necklace: A Perfect Accessory
Top: New York and Company
Belts: New York and Company
Sunglasses: Torrid

So what do you think?

Busy Saturday

Today I will be making this skirt and starting this dressThe red fabric with the flowers is for the skirt, the black fabric with the cherries is for the dress and the solid red fabric is the contrasting color for both. I really love my reds!

In between the sewing I will:
- Dye my hair
- Pedicure
- Do a couple of loads of laundry
- Go to the county fair with Mr. P

Hopefully I can get all this done so that I can spend my Sunday being a lazy bum in Barnes and Noble.

Mad Men, the start of a new addiction?

I am home today dealing with a massive migraine. It hit me last night and has basically kept me bed ridden all morning. I finally dragged myself to our couch and continued to catch up on watching all the shows I have recorded on the DVR.

While laying in my death bed I was having a conversation with a friend of mine about Mad Men. I have heard of the show but never watched it. He thinks that I will enjoy it especially the costumes used on the show. I started doing a bit of online research before I add another show to my line up on the DVR.

While doing my research I found this article about this little boy: His name is Arlo Weiner and he is the very stylish eight year old son of Matt Weiner the creator of Mad Men.

He is fabulous. I mean really, I love this little boy's fashion sense. I wish we were related, I would have him pick my clothes every day.

Look at his red ascot! Really! I just love it all. If in another alternate universe I have a child, I want a little boy just like him.

What do you think? Isn't he lovely?

How To: Dress an Hourglass Figure

The hourglass figure has been considered a beauty ideal for centuries. It was always thought as a sign of femininity.

During the Victorian era all fashionable women strived to achieve this look. Wearing corsets and other garments that would reshape their body to that of an hourglass figure. But with that most of them paid a price. Long term use of corsets would bring medical problems due to the shifting of their organs.

Over time women that did not have an hourglass figure have come up with ways to achieve this look with out the use of corsets. Though there are women that still use them for entertainment or to acheive a certain look, they are no longer the only solution.

How to determine if you have an hourglass shape?

A woman with an hourglass figure is a woman with a very curvy body. Broad hips and large breasts that are essentially the same measurement. The waist known as a "wasp waist" has a measurement that is over 50% less then their hip/breast measurement.

Essentially have the look of an old fashion hourglass, thus the name of this particular body type.

How to create or enhance an hourglass shape?

The key thing to creating the illusion of an hourglass shape or enhancing it is:

A well fitting bra.

Every woman should always wear a well fitting bra no matter your shape. But lets be honest here a majority of women walk around daily in the wrong bra size.

Going to Victoria Secret and having a sales person wrap a tape around your breast does not mean getting a proper fit. No offense to the girl's at Victoria's. But I have gone into a few of the store's just to test their skills, I have asked for a fitting and to date I have yet go into one that has giving me my correct bra size. Anyway, bra fitting is for another post, so lets move along.

After a proper fitting bra is all a matter of buying the right style and design of clothing that will flatter your curves.

V-neck shirts, wrap style designs and generally designs that nips at the waist are the types of clothing you want to look for. Belts are great accessories to always have around.

Two great examples of flattering styles are this great Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress:

and this Issa London dress:

Both dresses have the v-neck, wrap around waist and also a fluid bottom that adds fullness (but not too much. Too much fullness around the hip will make you look fat) and movement.

For those of you with the curves in all the right places for this body type and do not have to really do much in the illusions department (didn't you know? we women are magician's too), try one of these numbers:

Tadashi Shoji Pleated dress:

or Phoebe Couture Mixed Media Dress:

Both of these dresses have the v-neck element to them and hug the body giving emphasis to those kicking curves.

A few famous women with hourglass figures: Marilyn Monroe, Scarlet Johansson, Rita Hayworth, Sophia Loren

Links a la Mode: The IFB Weekly Roundup

The IFB does a blogs of the week type roundup every Thursday. This weeks roundup I enjoyed most of the links so I thought I share it with the rest of you.

Feminine Mystique

Edited by Debutante Clothing
The caliber of blog posts amongst the IFB members never ceases to amaze me. We run the gamut of style and fashion here. This week’s picks definitely appeal to the dueling femmes in me – the old fashioned gal and the powerful feminist. The debutante in me loved all the lovely posts about pearls including modern choices from Fashion Hippo, as well as the history of Mikimoto pearls by Fabulous Finds Gal. But nothing makes me clutch my pearls more than affordable Chanel looks by HiFashion. The feminist in me was thrilled to see smart posts about smart girls and smart fashion. Threadbared talks about academia and fashion, while 39th and Broadway explores the continuing inequality even within such a female driven industry like fashion. Enjoy!

Lazy Saturday

Mr. P and I had a whole plan for Saturday. We were going to wake up early go to the Botanical Gardens then go have an oink fest at BD's Mongolian Barbeque Grill. But our bodies had other plans. We slept our day away and now we find ourselves at Barnes and Noble continuing on our lazy day. Mr. P reading a book and me catching up on blogging, that I have shamelessly neglected.

It is funny how every time we attempt to make plans we end up doing something else. I am not complaining. I can actually go back home and jump in bed. Our work weeks are hard enough on us as it is I do not want for our weekends to be just as hard. So I try my hardest to listen to what my body wants on the weekends. So if the body wants to sleep and be lazy that is what it gets.

Another thing that had dawned on me is how I spend my lazy days. A lazy day for me was strolling around the mall, maybe picking up a shoe or two. Now every time I think of a lazy days what I am doing now is what comes to mind. Do not get me wrong, I still love to shop but instead of shopping for my clothes, I want to make my clothes.

We went to G Street Fabrics today to take a look at dress forms. I decided against getting one there because they look to be the same quality as others I have seen online at a much higher price. But since I was already there I decided to go look at the discount fabric table and I found this great dark fabric with pinstripes and thought "I can make Mr. P a pair of slacks with this", So off I ran to the pattern room and I found this fabulous pants pattern:

I also found a great pattern of a high waisted pencil skirt for myself:

Aren't those slacks and skirt great? I cannot wait to get home and turn on my sewing machine!

It is also great that I spent under 30 bucks on two patterns and 5 yards of fabric. As we all know that is a steal since a pair of nice men's trousers cost an arm and a leg. I will show you guys the final project once I am done.

The WTF Item of the week.

So I am getting my daily dose of blog reading before I start to do any real work and I see that Liberty London Girl blogged about the 2009 Costume Institute Gala Benefit. After reading her post, I headed on over to WWD to see the rest of what the stars wore and I must say my eyes burned a little. While there were some that looked great, like Carolina Herrera:

Most looked like they got dressed in the dark or I should say their stylist dressed them in the dark. For example: Really? WTF is that supposed to be?

I am not going to even bother posting more picture's. I do not want you all to go blind. But if you really want to see the vomit inducing fashion go here.

Wishing upon a Star

I am back at work today and to keep my sanity I am posting in between doing work related things.

So I decided to do a wishlist of things I want. Also, I will be posting some inspiration pictures.

Of course a wish list from me would just not be a wish list with out SHOES!! hehehe...

I LOVE these shoes. Too bad they do not have my size anymore.

These Bakers boots are great. Very Gucci. They also do not have my size, not that they would fit since I have the calves from hell!

A rainbow petti-coat a la Patricia Fields. This I can make and will be making to wear to the No Doubt concert.

I want this Tarina Tarantino necklace. It is loud and a little obnoxious. I love it. Maybe I can make one myself? hmmm...I really do not want to pay the almost $300 price tag for it.

That is about it for right now on the wish list end. Of course next month I will have a whole new set of things I am loving. By the way, all the shoes listed above I got from the Bakers Shoes website. They are having a sale right now so go check them out.

Now moving on to other things. I saw these pictures on the Nylon Magazine website and I am loving the Circus themed shoot. To see the rest of the pictures go to the website.

My WTF item of the month is this:
Cashmere Anime Sweaters. These puppies start at $1000 each. Are they f*king kidding me? There is no way in god's creation that I would pay that much for that. I love cashmere and have paid a pretty penny for stuff in the past but these sweaters look like crap. ARGH! I bet you next they are going to wrap shit in gold and try to sell it as fashion. Or have they done that already?

Ciao! xoxo
